The Westworld Season 2 Trailer: A Recap
In case you haven't seen it yet (where have you been?!), here's a quick recap of the Westworld season 2 trailer. It opens with a voiceover from Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood), saying, "We were made in your image, but we have our own image now." We see glimpses of the chaos left behind after the hosts' uprising in the first season. There's a new park, ShogunWorld, and a mysterious new character, Grace (Katja Herbers), who seems to be a guest in the park. Oh, and there's a massive, epic battle scene that looks absolutely stunning.
New Parks, New Stories
One of the most exciting things about the Westworld season 2 trailer is the introduction of ShogunWorld. This new park is based on feudal Japan and promises to add a whole new layer to the Westworld universe. We see samurai hosts, geishas, and even a giant, terrifying-looking sea creature. It looks like the hosts will have a whole new world to explore and, no doubt, wreak havoc in.
New Faces in the Park
Aside from the new park, there are also new faces in the Westworld season 2 trailer. Katja Herbers' character, Grace, is a mystery so far. Is she a new guest? A host? A park employee? We don't know yet, but she certainly looks like she can handle herself in a fight. There are also rumors of other new characters, but HBO is keeping tight-lipped about them for now.
The Man in Black's Journey
One of the most intriguing storylines from the first season was the Man in Black's (Ed Harris) quest to find the "maze." The Westworld season 2 trailer shows him continuing this journey, but it looks like he might be facing some new challenges. There's a quick shot of him in what looks like a very different version of Sweetwater, the town where the first season was primarily set. Could this be a flashback? A different park? We can't wait to find out!
The Hosts' Uprising
The first season ended with the hosts finally waking up and starting to remember their past lives. The Westworld season 2 trailer shows them continuing this rebellion. There are shots of hosts fighting back against the park's security forces, and it looks like they're getting pretty creative with their weaponry. Could this be the start of a full-scale war between the hosts and the park's creators?
What We Don't Know (Yet)
While the Westworld season 2 trailer has given us a lot to think about, there are still plenty of questions left unanswered. What's going on with Charlotte Hale (Tessa Thompson) and the park's board of directors? Will we finally get some answers about the mysterious "Valley Beyond"? And, most importantly, will we finally get to see some more of those adorable little host children?
Only time will tell, but one thing's for sure: Westworld season 2 is shaping up to be just as epic and mind-blowing as the first. So, mark your calendars, folks. The park opens again on April 22, 2018, and we couldn't be more ready to dive back in.
Until then, keep your park maps handy, and remember: in Westworld, nothing is ever as it seems.
